A research paper of approximately 50 pages in an area of special interest to the student, written under the supervision of a member of the department. After completing the research paper, the student will defend it before a three-person committee comprising the supervisor and two other department members. The committee assigns a letter grade to the major research paper based on the quality of the research, the writing and the oral defense.
